Greenleaf Environmental Services LLC serves waste disposal needs in the Piceance Basin and surrounding areas of western Colorado.
Greenleaf accepts both water and solids Exploration & Production wastes, as well as non-E&P-like wastes. Our central location provides for the most economical disposal in the area — we are located only seven miles from De Beque, Colorado.
With consideration of both trucking and disposal, Greenleaf offers the most cost-effective wastewater disposal available in the region. Wastewater is placed into a lined evaporation pond or injected, depending on the stream and the season.
Wet solids are run through a proprietary process that recovers the free oil before the material is dewatered — solids to an impoundment, liquid back into the pond system or the injection well. Dry solids are placed in Section 3 certified landfill cells, and that capacity is expanding onto neighboring property.
Greenleaf operates with an established financial assurance trust for closure and post-closure, ensuring little cradle-to-grave liability for waste producers.

Free oil is recovered from wet solids rather than buried with them — less mass to dispose of, and a saleable product back out.

History
The site was originally constructed in the early 1980s as the Black Mountain Disposal Facility, at a time when there were no residences within a half mile. It operated from 1983 to 2009 and closed in 2011.
Greenleaf Environmental Services purchased the property in 2015 and reopened it, commencing a program of facility improvements as the fourth substantial modification in the site's history. Prior modifications in 1992, 2004, and 2011 each involved hydrogeologic investigation, design drawings, and engineering certification.
Successive professional evaluations have found the site to be well situated for waste management: deep clayey soils 30 to 60 feet down to bedrock, no domestic potable groundwater beneath it, no nearby surface water or wetlands, a structurally stable geologic setting, and topography that shelters operations from prevailing winds.
